L01-20 | THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES AND POLICE AND CRIME PANELS (CORONAVIRUS) (FLEXIBILITY OF LOCAL AUTHORITY AND POLICE AND CRIME PANEL MEETINGS) (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 2020

Remote meetings

Updated regulations regarding remote meetings were published on 30 July and came into force on 1 August. NALC have updated their legal briefing which was issued on Monday to take account of the snappily titled Amendment Regulations to the Local Authorities and Police and Crime Panels (Coronavirus) (Flexibility of Local Authority and Police and Crime Panel Meetings) (England and Wales) Regulations 2020 (the 2020 Regulations).

Key points to note are that parish meetings will be included within the definition of ‘local authority’ so they can meet remotely, the requirement for an annual parish meeting is disapplied and there are amendments to meeting notice provisions, including a requirement for parish councils and parish meetings to send out details of the remote meeting (eg the Zoom, Microsoft Teams link and log in details) when public notice is given.
