An Introduction to Neighbourhood Planning and Design Codes

This session is designed to give councillors, clerks local councils an understanding of what is involved in the development of a Neighbourhood Plan and associated documents such as Design Codes, with a view to enabling them to get started or review an existing one.

To include:

  • An overview of the Neighbourhood Plan process

  • Developing a vision and objectives, writing the plan

  • Bringing the Neighbourhood Plan into force: examination, referendum, adoption

  • Reviewing a Neighbourhood Plan

  • Design Codes – what are they and how do they relate to neighbourhood planning

  • Resources, including grant fundings

  • Other options, neighbourhood development orders, neighbourhood priority statements, street votes

  • What the reforms to the planning system may mean for neighbourhood planning
