Lincolnshire Association of Local Councils (LALC) joined with East Riding and Northern Lincolnshire Associations of Local Councils (ERNLLCA) at our stand at The Lincolnshire Show 2025 to promote Town and Parish Council Clerks and Councillors. 


Clerk vacancies

Parish and Town Councillors

You need to contact your local Council to find out if they have a vacancy.

You are eligible to join any Town or Parish Council where you live, or for your main place of work, or if you own or lease land or property in the parish or if you live within 3 miles of the parish boundary. You can belong to more than one Parish or Town Council. 

Check the local council's  website and get in touch with the Town or Parish Clerk or the Chair of the Council to find out more about any vacancies.  

You can become a councillor through election or co-option discuss the possibilities  with the Clerk.

Find out what your local council does

Parish and town councils deliver a variety of services for their communities depending on the enthusiasm of their residents and councillors.  

A lot of their income comes from the precept collected from Council Tax.  Look at their budget and accounts. 

Check your local parish or town council's website, attend a meeting or two, ask questions and get involved.  Some of you might already be involved in another local group or activity but you don't have to be.

You really can make a difference to your local community taking an interest and finding out what residents want. 

Councillor's role

Whether elected or co-opted Town and Parish Councillors bring their experience, knowledge and skills to help shape their community. 

Contact your local Town Council or Parish Council to find out if there are any vacancies and how they plan to fill them.

Town Clerk and Parish Clerks

Find out more by speaking to current Clerks about their role and looking at vacancies.  

Training is available so even if it seems daunting most find that they are capable of doing the work if they have reasonable reading, writing and numerical skills ideally at NVQ Level 3 or above.
